Teri Lamar Bio
Born to John and Peggy Cinque on March 11th, 1954, in New York City, Theresa “Teri” Joan Cinque is the fourth in a family of five. By the time she was seven years old, she already had a lofty dream: to sing. It’s no wonder that music became her lifelong love - her parents were always singing around the house as her two brothers played the guitar and drums, Teri and her sisters singing Motown tunes into their hairbrushes in front of the mirror. Teri most loved to sing with her mother, who would teach her harmony as they put away the dishes after dinner. At the time, Teri didn’t even realize how much she would cherish those memories of singing with her family.
More than four decades later, Teri shyly walked into a local Eastchester bar that was holding an open jam session. Hesitantly, she got up to sing “Fever” with the house band. Her performance resulted in not just applause, but also encouragement to stay on the stage and belt out a few more. What Teri thought would end with someone yelling, “Keep your day job, Honey!” resulted in a future in music. As Teri performed at more open mic nights, she became acquainted with local musicians. Teri practiced to improve both her vocals and her presentation while still remembering to have plenty of fun. It was only three months before the new Teri Lamar Trio began playing at various Westchester hot spots. Six months later, the four-piece band Teri Lamar & Company was formed.
When the major electronics firm where Teri worked as an Executive Secretary went under, she dedicated herself to the band and changed its name to Teri Lamar & New Company. The demise of the company was a blessing in disguise. Up until that point, Teri hadn’t been able to practice singing at clubs in the evening while she was raising her son. When he turned 17, she gave in to the “bug.” Instead of typing letters and filing papers for a living, she decided to challenge herself by pursuing a path she loved. Teri’s vision was to be the lead singer and manager of a fun, upbeat cover band made up of quality musicians. At first, their song repertoire included her favorite Motown, R&B and classic rocks songs, eventually expanding to also include ballads, standards, 60s oldies and 70s disco. Today, Teri Lamar and New Company is regularly complimented on their song choice and music selection range.
Teri is influenced by various genres of music, including Motown, R&B, classic rock and pop. Her favorite artists include The Supremes, Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Kenny Rankin, Kenny Loggins, The Beatles, Karen Carpenter, Melissa Manchester, Angela Bofill and Phoebe Snow.
Teri Lamar and New Company performs most weekends at multiple establishments and venues in the Westchester area. The band also plays at weddings, corporate parties and social events.
